Nicole’s background is on issues that face the global Indigenous community on the whole as well as the innumerable individual issues facing Indigenous nations and communities.  Her graduate research and coursework at UCLA will be mostly concentrated on environmental transgressions, sovereignty and other civil rights issues within the legal framework of the United States.

Goals:

After completing her Master’s degree at UCLA, Nicole intends to pursue a degree in law and later a PhD.  She hopes to work in civil rights law and/or environmental and natural resource law as well as to teach, particularly in communities with large minority populations.

Background:

Nicole was raised in Pico Rivera and Moreno Valley California before moving frequently for work and then relocating to Berkeley California for college.  Although she will miss the bay area, she is very eagerly looking forward to continuing her research and studies at the AIS department at UCLA as well as re-acquainting herself with her favorite outdoor sports to be found in Southern California.  Being from a very close family she is also very glad to be moving closer to them.  She also hopes to resume her volunteer work with the American Red Cross and Sherman Indian School Museum.
