Research Interests:
Christie’s graduate work focuses on California Native Nations. Her current research expands and critiques existing theory on sovereignty and nation development. Her other interests include contemporary Indian education, health care and community identity.
Background:
Christie graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies and a minor in Native American Studies. She spent the following year teaching first grade at Tohatchi Elementary School on the Navajo Nation in New Mexico. As a first-year teacher, she was honored with District Growth Awards in both Math and Reading and helped her school achieve Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) standing. Christie plans to later pursue a Juris Doctorate and continue her work with California tribal communities.
